LADOGA APOI at
KAVALEROVO (Primorsky region)
en-route site (experimental operation) |
LADOGA APOI is intended for digital processing of
radar data being simultaneously delivered from PSR and
SSR for combining PSR and SSR data and transmitting of
the outgoing messages via serial communication lines
into the automated air traffic control system.
Radars of KOREN, KOREN-AS, RADUGA, 1RL139, 1RL118,
SKALA, IRTYSH, EKRAN-85, EKRAN-85TK, etc types can be
used as radar data sources.
Short description
LADOGA APOI consists of:
- APOI processing unit providing radar data
reception, conversion, plot extracting (and post
processing), forming the outgoing messages for users
of navigation information;
- Maintenance terminal (based on PC-compatible
computer), providing remote monitoring of equipment
operability, processing setup, reconfiguration, and
also radar data displaying on ASD.
Main technical features of LADOGA APOI:
- Modular design enables equipment reconfiguration
depending on users requirements;
- Digital signal processors
TMS320C6114 of Texas Instruments
Co. are the kernels of processing modules;
- Logical and interface components in the
processing modules are realized on Xilinx logical
microcircuits (FPGA series);
- High performance multiprocessor system with a
short time processing of radar data;
- Radar data processing realization without using
of operating system increases system’s reliability
and doesn’t require high experienced staff;
- Using of universal time system GPS/GLONASS;
- Design following «Euro mechanic» standard
provides its installation into standard 19 inch
cabinet;
- Can be installed in unmanned body;
- SMALL SIZE, SMALL WEIGHT AND LOW POWER
CONSUMPTION;
LADOGA APOI includes two equipment sets – the main
and back-up one (with the automated switching)– that
provides uninterrupted round-the-clock
equipment operation.

Fig 1. LADOGA general view
Each equipment set contains the following units
(refer to fig 1.):
- interface unit (M1module), intended for
conversion of signals of radars angle sensors,
receiving information on UTC (universal coordinated
time) for satellite navigation systems;
- control facility (M2 module), providing
equipment monitoring and control, combination and
secondary processing of radar information, received
from plot extractors;
- plot extractor of PSR information (M3 module);
- plot extractor of SSR (with international RBS
channel) information (M4 module);
- plot extractor of SSR (with national UVD
channel) information (M5 module);
- secondary power supply (M6 module);
- GPS/GLONASS satellite navigation receiver
(installed in M1 module).In addition, the unit contains a switch (M10 module)
providing interface with radar data sources and users.
Each equipment module is based on 233x160x20/40 mm
printed boards and having 20 mm. or 40 mm. width meets
Euro standards design requirements.
Two modifications of LADOGA APOI have been designed –
with a time synchronizer (system providing single
coordinates and time – SCTS) and without it. SCTS
provides radar data “tailoring” to UTC transmitted by
GPS/GLONASS and also UTC scale forming and transmitting
navigation information to users via RS-232 and RS-485
leased channels.
In 2003, preliminary, acceptance and certification
tests of LADOGA APOI were successfully completed at
Pulkovo airport.
In December 2003, the Interstate Aviation Committee
granted two certificates (¹ 342 and ¹343) to LADOGA
APOI.
Performance specifications of LADOGA APOI (accuracy
and number of processed targets) are in compliance with
ICAO requirements.
